Wildfire and your water supply
Every spring, summer, and fall the weather gets hot and dry. Vegetation dries out and creates HIGHLY FLAMMABLE FUELS and HIGH FIRE DANGER.
The risks for loss of property including thousands of homes become more prevalent.
Actions you can take include:
- FACT: City and Municipal Water Services cannot guarantee or maintain water pressure or an uninterrupted water supply in the event of a wildfire.
SOLUTION: Have an adequate clean water supply.
- FACT: Loss of electricity may cause pumps to fail.
SOLUTION: Backup generators and gas powered pumps may be your only way to apply water and fire blocking gel onto your home.
- FACT: Extreme increases in demand for water from your neighbors and firefighters during a wildfire is likely to cause a reduction in water pressure or complete loss of water supply.
SOLUTION:It is also very important to keep a supply of clean and safe drinking water available throughout the fire season in case your water supply is interrupted. A good idea is to keep jugs of water in your fridge.
- FACT: Despite preparations, extreme circumstances may make it impossible to maintain water pressure or an uninterrupted water supply during a wildfire.
SOLUTION: WHEN PREPARING YOUR FIRE PLAN…..CONSIDER INSTALLING AN INDEPENDENT WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM.
